For years, Katrine Laroque has been part of the driving force behind the Senior Wish Association, an organization committed to supporting isolated seniors through acts of kindness, meaningful connection and thoughtful care.

At the core of her efforts is the belief that no senior should feel forgotten, especially those living without family or close friends.

The association delivers heartfelt programs such as events, care packages and wish-granting initiatives that uplift seniors across the region.

One of the most impactful efforts she helps with is the Bags of Love campaign.

These beautifully curated gift packages are filled with comforting and essential items everything from cozy socks and snacks, to handwritten cards and are delivered to isolated seniors identified by staff at local retirement and long-term care homes.

Katrine doesn’t just oversee the process she’s in it from start to finish.

She spends the entire year quietly collecting donations, thoughtfully choosing items with the seniors’ comfort and joy in mind.

“Katrine personally collects items throughout the year, always keeping in mind what will bring joy and comfort to our senior community,” said Senior Wish volunteer Tracey, who nominated Katrine for a Random Act of Kindness.

Katrine’s compassion has created a ripple effect that extends far beyond the seniors she serves.

Her colleagues and employer have become strong supporters of her mission, inspired by her gentle, giving spirit.

“Her kindness has not only touched the senior community but also inspired her colleagues and broader network,” Tracey added. “Her employer and fellow employees wholeheartedly support her work with seniors, inspired by the same caring and compassionate spirit she shows in every part of her life.”

It’s this unwavering dedication that led Tracey to nominate Katrine for a BarrieToday Random Act of Kindness.

BarrieToday was thrilled to surprise Katrine with a Random Act of Kindness to thank her for her incredible work.

Her gifts included flowers from The Studio at Barrie Flowers, sweet treats from Cacao 70, a gift card to PetSmart, a restaurant gift card for a well-deserved night out and a donation in her honour to the Senior Wish Association.

True to form, Katrine was touched but humble in her response.

“I don’t do it for recognition,” she said. “These seniors have lived full lives and deserve to feel seen and cared for. It’s a gift to be able to help.”

Katrine credits her values and sense of compassion to the example set by her mother.

“My mom always made sure people felt included and looked after,” Katrine shared. “She showed me that kindness isn’t something you wait to be asked for, you just do it and that’s always stayed with me.”

When asked what motivates her, Katrine’s answer was simple but powerful.

“Everyone deserves dignity and connection. If I can make even one person feel loved or remembered, that’s all the reason I need.”

Katrine exemplifies what it means to serve others with grace, empathy and dedication.

A heartfelt thank you to Katrine for all she does and to the Senior Wish Association for its ongoing impact on our senior community.
