Since 2018, a local organization has been providing compassionate support to families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss. Founded in memory of Bridget Bell Morrison, who was unexpectedly born still in November of 2017, Bridget’s Bunnies aims to ensure no family faces this kind of loss alone.
Bridget’s Bunnies provides Comfort Kits, which include thoughtful items to help grieving families at no cost to them. These kits are distributed to hospitals or directly to families.
The organization also offers support through their Little Loss Libraries, which provide books on grief and healing.
“After experiencing it ourselves with the loss of our daughter Bridget, we knew we needed to do something to help the families that followed us,” said Theresa Morrison, executive director and co-founder of Bridget’s Bunnies.
“The Comfort Kits are a collection of things that helped us when we were feeling alone,” she shared.
In their first year of operation, Bridget’s Bunnies delivered a total of 20 Comfort Kits. This past year, they delivered 820 kits.
“We’ve seen a huge increase in demand for our services,” Morrison said.
The charity is run entirely through donations and volunteer efforts, allowing them to continue their mission of love and support.
How you can help
Instead of simply donating a sum of money, Bridget’s Bunnies has a unique program to make donations feel a little more personal.
Their Gift It Forward program allows donors to purchase a gift that can be added to a Comfort Kit, or a $5 greeting card that can be sent to someone going through a loss, ensuring they feel acknowledged and supported. Morrison says that this program turns generosity into tangible comfort and compassion for those in need.
Gifts that are available for purchase include charm necklaces, stuffed bunnies and books to help grieving mothers, fathers and siblings navigate the delicate journey of loss.
Bridget’s Bunnies is always on the lookout for new volunteers to help keep its services running. Those who are interested in crafting can sign up to be a Bunny Maker and help crochet or knit the stuffed bunnies that are added to each Comfort Kit. All materials are provided free of charge.
“This is our way of parenting our little girl who didn’t get to stay,” Morrison said.
Bridget’s Bunnies has grown from a heartfelt tribute into a vital source of comfort for families facing the unimaginable pain of pregnancy and infant loss.
Their growing impact highlights the power of community in transforming grief into compassion. Through their programs, the organization hopes to continue providing meaningful reassurance to those in need.
